47th Avenue & York Street Pedestrian Bridge
Project Description
The pedestrian bridge and ramps replaced the at-grade crossing that connected the Swansea and Elyria neighborhoods. The east ramp encloses an area designed for play and recreation. The upper levels of the two ramps and the bridge offer views of the mountains and downtown. The design of the ramp railing repeats the spiral geometry of the two ramps and was inspired by Mayan serpentine coil motifs and propels the eye of the viewer along the length of the ramp.
Mark Leese’s Role
Leese & Associates provided the overall urban design and aesthetic treatment of the pedestrian bridge and ramps.
