Project Description
Mark Leese, while with a previous firm, designed the Jurassic Leaves stairwell canopy at the Louisiana-Pearl Light Rail Station Plaza. Light rail transit platforms below the plaza are accessed via the stairwell. Large steel leaves with copper sheathing over stainless steel work together to provide a solid canopy over the stairwell. The project won a Denver Mayor’s Design Award in 2006 and the canopy’s iconic shape has become a landmark along I-25.
Mark Leese’s Role
Mark Leese designed the canopy as part of the plaza design with Tom Jump of Jump Design Company.
The project was awarded the Denver 2006 Mayor’s Design Award. The award recognizes “excellence in design that makes the Denver community more interesting, provocative and memorable”.
